I’ve found one online. Specifically a 1984. The owner is asking $1,200 and I’ve talked him down to $1,000. Would it be foolish to buy this bike? It’s everything I’m looking for. Dual sport, cheap , old(er) and RED.
The bike in question has 9,300 miles since the engine rebuild. Only work besides the rebuild are new Renthal bars, tires and a new tail light.
Also, the bike pictured above is not the actual bike that I’m interested in. The bike I’ve been talking about looks to be in decent shape from the pictures. The seat needs to be recovered and there is a dent on the right side of the gas tank. Overall it looks pretty good and I’m extremely tempted to check it out.
What do you guys think?

That thing is a BEAST!
The one oddity is the dual carb setup. There’s a primary and secondary carburettor on these and that could lead to tuning issues.
At $1200, if it’s ridable I’d have a hard time walking away. That’s what a clean 350R goes for around here.

Those old Hondas are bullet proof. I know that’s a cliche but it rings true from what I have seen and read. A grand doesn’t get you much anymore, especially if it runs good. From the pic it looks in ridiculously good shape. I would go for it, have fun and write lots about 2 wheels.

I’ve heard/read that they’re great bikes and that’s what has me interested! I didn’t know about the carb stuff. I’m probably taking a look at tomorrow or Sunday and I’ll make sure to ask about that. Thanks!!

I rode my cousin’s several times and it was a monster. For that price, I’d have to do it.

No problem! I love seeing people getting into vintage bikes.
It’s a fairly forgiving machine, fast but it won’t try to kill you at the first minor screw up.

big thumper, so i’m okay with the 500cc+ size.
it will have a little more of torque, so try to not just dump the clutch the first couple of times.
also, GEAR. GEAR GEAR GEAR

WHAT??? is that really what a 350R goes for there? Here I’d be looking at minimum 3K for a shit one.

a thousand is a steal for that in my area. All I would get here for a grand is an XR80 if I’m lucky.

Damn! That’s a lot! There aren’t too many people into older bikes out here though too.
